The Class of 2020 came into adulthood in the midst of a pandemic and that fact will shape their lives. They have been labeled GenZ; those born in 1998; a generation adapted to technology.
Most 2020 graduates had reached the legal status of adult.
As adults, recent graduates will need to consider having certain documents, like a HIPPA release. The release allows their parents (or any other adult designated) to get medical information in case of emergency. A hospital could require a HIPPA release document prior to the medical institution giving out your medical information.
In simple terms….A health care proxy is another adult you designate and trust to speak on our behalf in a medical situation… when you cannot speak for yourself. (A health care proxy is also known as medical power of attorney or advance directives.)
A Power of Attorney allows another adult to access financial matters and discuss them e.g. college loans; credit card bills; banking accounts; financial aid. The Power of Attorney is effective if you are disabled, either permanently or temporarily.
Parents should encourage their recent graduates to have these ‘adult’ documents in place in case they are required.
Congratulations To The Class of 2020.
