According to Medicareinteractive. Org - “Many people who had Marketplace coverage and then qualified for Medicare made a costly mistake by keeping their Marketplace coverage and not enrolling in Medicare. Many mistakenly believed that their Marketplace subsidies would continue, and, as a result they now face Medicare Part B late enrollment penalties and, for many, gaps in coverage.”
“CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) has launched an initiative to provide these individuals with equitable relief including a Special Enrollment Period to sign up for Part B and, importantly, relief from Part B late enrollment penalties.”
Note: the Deadline for seeking ‘equitable relief’ is September 30, 2018
Medicareinteractive.org - states: “You may be eligible to request time-limited equitable relief if you delayed enrolling in Medicare Part B so that you could stay in your Marketplace plan…”
The website www.cms.gov/Medicare is an excellent source to explain who is eligible and how to make a claim. “…CMS is offering equitable relief to eligible individuals who were dually enrolled in Medicare Part A and coverage through the Marketplace and subsequently enrolled in Medicare Part B with a late enrollment penalty. This equitable relief provides these individuals an opportunity to request a reduction in their Medicare Part B late enrollment penalty.”
Remember, this is time-limited, and the deadline to file is September 30, 2018.
