Barbara is an active member of the following professional organizations:
Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel
The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) is a nonprofit association of lawyers established in 1949. ACTEC members are elected to the College by demonstrating the highest level of integrity, commitment to the profession, competence and experience as trust and estate counselors.
All ACTEC Fellows have made substantial contributions to the field of trusts and estates law through writing, teaching and bar leadership activities. The Fellows work together in a collegial manner to:
(1) Enhance their ability to provide the most efficient and highest quality services to clients;
(2) Develop qualified trust and estate counselors;
(3) Improve and reform probate, trust and tax laws, procedures and standards of professional responsibility; and
(4) Cooperate with bar associations and other organizations with similar missions.
Membership in ACTEC is by election of the Regents of the College. Individual lawyers meeting the criteria for membership are nominated for membership by Fellows in the College. They are then subjected to careful review by both state and national membership selection committees prior to consideration by the Regents of the College.
Barbara serves on the Estate and Gift Tax Committee and the Fiduciary Income Tax Committee of ACTEC.
Member of the Colorado Bar Association, Trust and Estate Section (Former Chair 2005-2006)
The Colorado Bar Association (CBA) is a nonprofit voluntary member organization. The CBA has approximately 18,000 members; 73% of active Colorado attorneys are members of the CBA.
During 2005-2006, Barbara was the Chair of the Trust and Estate Section of the CBA. In that capacity, Barbara was responsible for guiding the Section in addressing the interests and problems of both specialists and general practitioners in the area of Wills, Trusts, Estates, Guardianships and Conservatorships.
The Section has many actively working Committees, including a speakers bureau, publication of a quarterly newsletter for members, preparation and publication of forms for use by practitioners and development and review of legislation regarding Wills, Trusts and Estates.
Barbara continues to actively serve on several Committees of the Trust and Estate Section and attends Section meetings held once each month during August through May.
Rocky Mountain Estate Planning Council
The Rocky Mountain Estate Planning Council (RMEPC) is an organization of leading estate planning professionals in Denver.
The membership includes estate planning lawyers, certified public accountants and financial planners.
The mission of the RMEPC is to provide opportunities for the practitioners of multiple disciplines to meet for education designed to improve the level of proficiency regarding estate planning.
Estate Planning Council of Colorado Springs
The Estate Planning Council of Colorado Springs is an organization of estate planning professionals in Colorado Springs.
The membership includes estate planning lawyers, certified public accountants, trust officers and financial planners.
The organization provides opportunities for education in estate planning subjects and professional forums and meetings with others practicing in the estate planning field.
Fellow of the Colorado Bar Foundation
The Colorado Bar Foundation, established in 1953 by members of the Colorado Bar Association (CBA), functions exclusively for educational and charitable purposes.
The primary source of funding for its operations is derived from the Colorado Bar Foundation Fellows and their annual contributions.
The Colorado Bar Foundation Fellows are members in good standing in the CBA who are selected based on recommendations of their colleagues.
Fellows are selected because of their outstanding contributions to their communities.
