The Series EE bonds are still available, still not glamorous, but for those with an eye to the future, they might be a method of saving that lessens your future tax burden.
No longer in paper form, the Series EE bonds can be purchased from treasury direct.gov. There are limitations on the purchase of bonds and it is beyond the scope of this article to determine the pros and cons of individual situations for tax liability.
Do they still make a good gift for a grandchild? Since bonds fully mature in 30 years, it is a very forward looking gift indeed.
