General Description of Legal Fees and Costs
At the commencement of the attorney-client relationship, Barbara will discuss with each new client the legal fees and costs for the services that she is requested to provide. The legal fees and costs, and the basis for determining the legal fees and costs, are set forth in a written engagement letter that is signed by both Barbara and the new client.
Since the costs of delivering legal services change periodically and because each new client's situation is different, legal fees cannot be quoted on this Website. However, here is a brief, general description of how your legal fees might be determined.
Hourly Rates: In general, the legal fees for services are determined based on the amount of time required to complete the work that has been agreed upon. Typically, for legal work, time is recorded in tenths of hours (six minutes) and the legal fee is the hourly rate multiplied by the amount of time recorded in working on your matter.
Fixed Fees: In some cases, a fixed or "flat" fee can be quoted for the document(s) that are prepared. You will be furnished with an estimate of the legal fees to complete the work that has been agreed upon.
Other Expenses: In addition to legal fees, other expenses might include postage/copying and expedited delivery services, recording fees and court filing fees.
What You Don't Pay For: There is no charge for travel time; for practice software (read more about the web-based secure Practice Management Software) or for office supply costs. There are no separate weekend or holiday rates. There is never any charge for time spent discussing questions about your invoices.
A retainer may be requested before any work is started. The retainer is held in a trust account and from time to time, the retainer amount will be applied toward the payment of legal fees that have accrued.
You will receive a clear and concise billing statement on a regular basis.
Your billing statements will be available on your secure, encrypted, Clio portal.
There is never any charge for time spent discussing questions about your invoices.
