The Genworth Cost of Care Survey* (www.genworth.com) offers data by state for the average costs of home health aides; adult day care facilities; assisted living facilities; homemaker services and nursing home care.
To offer some examples: In Denver the costs of homemaker services are on average $157 per day; for home health aides $172 per day; Adult day care $65 per day; assisted living $155 per day and nursing home care at $275 for semiprivate and $313 for private rooms.
Remember, these are only averages; actual costs can vary widely depending upon the facility and services provided.
In New Jersey one can expect on average to pay: $199 per day for assisted living; $350 per day for a semi private room in a nursing home and $390 per day for a private room.
Residents of New York can expect to spend on average $150 per day for homemaker services; $157 per day for a home health aide; $90 per day for adult day care; $194 per day of assisted living facility; $398 per day for a semi private room in a nursing and $425 per day for a private room.
Some long term care policies can help to offset the costs of long term care either at home or in a facility, depending on the policy.
