Whatever your personal feelings about retirement – the article from our friends at Investopedia.com takes an objective look at the question – How do you know you are prepared for retirement?
The article is titled: 6 Signs That You Are OK to Retire by Amy Bell (updated June 1, 2018) Investopedia.com. There are excellent points made by Amy Bell about both the financial and social aspects of retiring.
Keep in mind, as I have previously written, that retirement is not an ‘all or nothing decision”. One approach may be to ‘test the waters’ by decreasing the hours that you work, or seeking a part-time position in the same field.
An important consideration (besides the financial one) is to have a plan for your retirement, in terms of how you will spend the extra hours in each day that being retired gives a person.
An interesting point also, and one made in the article, is that if all of your friends are still working, what is the effect on your social network?
Reaching full retirement age and feeling financially stable is only one part of the bigger issues of whether a person is “ready” for retirement.
