Some of the odder wills on record are templates for creating mischief and for allowing embittered spouse, sibling, parent or child to vent their frustration and their pettiness.
Two of the stranger wills on record (according to some documents) are:
Harry Houdini, the magician, who was devoted to his mother. Houdini held a fascination with spiritualism and life after death. In his Will, Houdinil required that a séance be held on each anniversary of his death.
William Shakespeare was not above leaving a barb and used his Will as an opportunity to rebuke his wife, Ann, bequeathing her his ”second best bed.”
In contrast, Jack Benny, a television icon, provided in his Will that a single rose be delivered to his wife, Mary, every day – until her death.
A will is a legal document that provides executors with specific directives about the final wishes of the deceased. An individual has the right to dispose of their assets in any way they find appropriate.
However, before anyone considers using a Will as a method of chastisement or when the motivation for making a will is revenge, or to 'even an old score'...take heed. The Will may reveal more about your character than you would want survivors to know.
