Under the article’s New Protections heading are some protections that are being phased in: for example –“Residents will be allowed to receive any visitor, not just relatives, at any hour of the day, as long as their visitors don’t disturb fellow residents. Residents who want to live together will be allowed to, and nursing homes will have greater responsibility for ensuring that residents’ personal belongings aren’t lost or stolen.”
The article also mentions the Families for Better Care advocacy group (www.familiesforbettercare.com). The site offers links to other organizations and advocacy groups.
Another site for helpful information: https://Itcombudsman.org which states, among other rights:
“The facility must not… require a third-party guarantee of payment as a condition of admission, expedited admission or continued stay in the facility;…”
however…”The facility may require a relative or other designated representative to sign a contract to provide facility payment from your income or resources, without your representative incurring personal financial liability;…"
In addition - There may be nursing home admission documents that vary by state and facility.

I have written previously articles (available on my website: www.attorneybarbaradalvano.weebly.com under Family Support, Elder Care, Elder Law) advising that when arranging for nursing home admission for yourself or for a loved one… read the documents carefully, ask questions and when in doubt about any contract – consult a professional to review documents.
