A recent article *from our friends at Squared Away (referencing an excellent infographic**) indicates that baby boomers are still a force to be reckoned with in the workplace.
One statistic indicates that 27% of people over the age of 55 hold part-time employment and 40% of people over 65 are still holding part-time jobs. (Bureau of Labor Statistics)
There is a 63% increase of working adults over 65 within the last decade.
The article points to improved health as one of the reasons, along with better education. Also, the baby boomer generation is one of the largest (numerically) generations in the U.S.
Within the present economy, due to a ‘tight’ labor market in certain careers and in certain parts of the country, baby boomers are remaining in the work force longer.
This all points to excellent opportunities for older workers to supplement their retirement income.
One way to remain in the workforce is to keep skills current, or to learn new skills after retirement.
Updating computer skills with online courses or at community colleges is an excellent method to stay competitive in the present labor market.

** "Created by Georgetown University’s Center for Retirement Initiatives, the infographic uses demographic data to show that boomers remain important to the labor market even as they grow older.”
